Centre is a design office. Its work focuses on identity and creative direction for people, institutions and brands guiding the trajectory of contemporary culture. Recent commissions include identities for The Japan Pavilion at the 58th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia and The Aichi Triennale 2022, and art direction for ISSEY MIYAKE and Tokyo Art Book Fair.
Yoshihisa Tanaka
Founder of Centre Inc. / Member of a Alliance Graphique Internationale and Japan Graphic DesignAssociation Inc. / Part-time lecturer at Tama Art University and Tokyo University of the Arts.
Born in Shizuoka, Japan in 1980. Graduated from Musashino Art University in 2004. He established the shared creative office in 2008. In 2022, he established Centre Inc. Tanaka’s design approach is characterized by spatial awareness and three-dimensional design while focusing on paper-based media. His design activities cover various fields, from publicity materials such as posters to book design, signage systems design for cultural institutions, and identity creation. He also forms the artist duo 「Nerhol」 with Ryuta Iida (sculptor). Their major exhibitions include 『Index』 at the Foam Museum of Photography in the Netherlands, 『Promenade』 at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and 『New Photographic Objects』 at the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama.
