2024 S/S collection of ISSEY MIYAKE is “Grasping the Formless.” Collaborating with designer Satoshi Kondo and his team, we created a series of suspended pleated paper membranes that pulse and move in rhythm with the show. This art piece, composed of natural washi fibers mixed with clay, brings a different perspective to the collection’s theme of “grasping the formless” and creates a synergistic effect with the collection.
Kondo commented, “These washi papers act like membranes that react to their surroundings, as if they are conversing with and responding to someone moving around them. The resulting flow of air, sound waves, humidity, and even human emotions are conveyed.”
This installation, which exudes a fleeting lightness, ultimately reflects the relationship between a piece of cloth and the person wearing it. The dynamic movement was further enhanced by a live performance by the Belgian orchestra Ictus and the poetic choreography of Nemo Flouret.
